At the same time, the company continues to create innovative solutions for farmers to reduce farm emissions and enhance the climate resilience of their operations.
Climate Milestone
2023
- In 2023, Corteva reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 emissions per $1 net sales by 21% compared to 2020 (an absolute reduction of 6%).
- Corteva enhanced its greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting to improve the accuracy of emissions tracking, focusing on a top crop protection suppliers and contracted seed acres with an activity-based approach to scale the company's sustainability metrics.
- Corteva launched the Reklemel™ active ingredient, which won the National Association of Manufacturers' Sustainability and the Circular Economy Award. This product is projected to avoid over 500 million kilograms of CO2 equivalent emissions over the next five years.
- The company announced a multi-year partnership with Bunge to develop soybean varieties with higher protein content and optimized amino acid structures. This crop will create potential new value stream opportunities for soybean farmers while helping to reduce the downstream feed industry's reliance on synthetic protein additives, thereby lowering costs and reducing the carbon footprint.
- In collaboration with Bunge and Chevron, Corteva launched a business partnership aimed at working with growers in some regions to increase canola planting during crop rotation cycles. This will supply plant-based oil for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. The biofuels formed from plant or waste carbon sinks will close the loop, achieving "net-zero" carbon emissions growth.
- By purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Corteva reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 CO2 equivalent emissions by over 40,000 metric tons.
